Oscar Mayer opens applications for new Hotdogger class to drive Wienermobile into its 90th year

Oscar Mayer is searching for its next class of Hotdoggers—recent college graduates who will spend a year traveling the country as official spokespeople while driving the iconic Wienermobile, the company announced Monday.

Applications for the one-year, full-time role are open through January 31. The Hotdogger Program, launched in 1988, was created to develop young talent and inspire future leaders who embrace creativity, community spirit and a sense of fun. Since it began, Oscar Mayer says Hotdoggers have “sparked nearly 200 million smiles,” aligning with research showing that 90 percent of Gen Z want careers that make a positive societal impact.

“There is no better way to jumpstart your career than behind the wheel of an American icon, and each year applicants go all out to get our attention—whether it be creating social media videos or mailing in creative scrapbooks and projects to our headquarters,” said Molle Twing, Senior Brand Manager for Oscar Mayer and a former Hotdogger. “That spirit and imagination perfectly captures what it means to be a Hotdogger, and whether you were in the first class of Hotdoggers or are looking to become part of this year’s, one thing remains true: this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to relish.”

The role remains highly competitive, with more than 5,000 applicants each year and just 12 selected—“so few,” Oscar Mayer notes, “that fewer people have driven the Wienermobile than have been to outer space.” The upcoming class will be the 39th group of Hotdoggers and will help usher the Wienermobile into its 90th year.

Hotdoggers are responsible for driving and maintaining the 27-foot-long hot dog on wheels while visiting as many as 30 states and attending hundreds of events annually. Along with greeting fans, participating in media appearances and attending community gatherings, Hotdoggers also serve as content creators, producing social media content and documenting their travels.

Since its debut in 1936, the Wienermobile has appeared in television shows, movies and even weddings. Hotdoggers have surprised fans and celebrities with rides “shotbun,” officiated ceremonies at the “Wienermobile of Love” in Las Vegas and, most recently, raced at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the inaugural Wienie 500.
