Overnight lane closures to begin Monday on Route 31 southbound in Raritan Township
RARITAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Single-lane closures are scheduled on Route 31 southbound between Minneakoning Road and Walter Foran Boulevard/County Route 523 beginning Monday night, Oct. 13, as part of an ongoing roadway widening project in Hunterdon County, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT).
The closures are expected to take place each night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., starting Monday, Oct. 13, through Thursday, Oct. 16, to allow crews to perform final paving. At least one lane will remain open overnight in the construction zone.
NJDOT advises motorists to slow down, use caution, and expect delays while traveling through the area.
The $3.6 million federally funded project will reconfigure portions of Route 31 southbound between Wescott Drive/County Route 600 and Walter Foran Boulevard/County Route 523 in Flemington to provide two 11-foot-wide travel lanes and an eight-foot-wide shoulder along the corridor.
In addition to widening the roadway, the project includes upgrading traffic signals at the Route 31 and Minneakoning Road intersection, constructing ADA-compliant curb ramps and sidewalks, rebuilding the left-turn lane and center median, improving drainage, relocating utilities, and repaving the roadway.
The work schedule is subject to change due to weather or other factors. NJDOT encourages motorists to check 511nj.org for real-time travel updates and construction information.
