Tractor-trailer overturns after striking disabled car on I-80 in Morris County; five hospitalized
MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Five people were injured early Saturday when a tractor-trailer carrying paint and hydrogen overturned on Interstate 80 after striking a disabled car, according to the New Jersey State Police.
Troopers responded to the crash about 2 a.m. on I-80 westbound near milepost 24.4 in Mount Olive Township.
A preliminary investigation determined that a Buick traveling west struck a deer in the roadway and became disabled in the center lane. A westbound Kenworth commercial vehicle then struck the Buick from behind, veered off the roadway to the right and overturned, state police said.
The driver of the Kenworth sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. The driver and three passengers in the Buick also suffered minor injuries and were taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The crash remains under investigation. No additional information was immediately available.
