Resident rescued from burning home in Somerset County early Friday morning

MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Somerset County) — A resident was rescued from a house fire early Friday morning after flames broke out at a single-family home on Opossum Road, officials said.

Emergency crews were dispatched shortly after 4 a.m. following reports that the front of the home was on fire and that a person with mobility issues was trapped inside.

When police and fire personnel arrived, they found heavy fire coming from the front of the residence. Officers from the Montgomery Township Police Department gained entry through a rear door and pulled the trapped resident to safety before firefighters began extinguishing the blaze.

Firefighters quickly brought the flames under control and prevented the fire from spreading beyond the front of the home, authorities said. The resident and others at the scene were evaluated by Montgomery EMS and RWJ Paramedics before being taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Crews remained on scene to extinguish hot spots and ventilate the home.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
