SOMERSET COUNTY, N.J. — Seven police vehicles will be wrapped in pink and used for community events throughout Somerset County in October as part of an annual campaign supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, Far Hills Police Department, Peapack-Gladstone Police Department, Franklin Township Police Department, Watchung Police Department and Bedminster Police Department are participating in the campaign.
The vehicles will be used for community engagements throughout October to raise awareness about the importance of medical screenings and early detection of breast cancer for both women and men.
Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, Peapack Private Bank & Trust, Open Road Auto Group and the Far Hills Race Meeting Association funded the wrapping of the vehicles.
“The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office is deeply committed to assisting residents to maintain awareness of breast cancer and to provide reliable information for early detection. Every credible medical study emphasizes the critical importance of early detection. The Pink Cars utilized by law enforcement throughout Somerset County help connect residents with valuable resources for early detection. A resident’s ability to scan a QR Code and set up a medical screening at no charge is an important service we render to the community,” Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald said.
“We hope the pink cars help remind women to take charge of their breast health and get their annual mammograms to help detect breast cancer at its earliest, most treatable stages,” said Kerstin Scheper, Assistant Vice President, Oncology Services at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset’s Steeplechase Cancer Center.
The Steeplechase Cancer Center, together with Rutgers Cancer Institute, provides comprehensive breast cancer care from diagnosis through treatment and survivorship.
A ceremony introducing the pink police vehicles will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, outside the Somerset County Historic Courthouse in Somerville. All seven vehicles will be on display.
Throughout the month, the vehicles will be available within their respective jurisdictions for members of the public to sign and take photographs.
Representatives from the seven participating law enforcement agencies, Somerset County, the participating sponsors and other local officials are expected to attend Thursday’s event.
