WASHINGTON BOROUGH, N.J. (Warren County) — Washington Township police officers were recently awarded Unit Citation Awards for their response to an armed woman who entered a crowded diner with visible self-inflicted injuries earlier this year, according to the Washington Township Police Department.
Police said the incident occurred April 3 when township officers assisted New Jersey State Police in apprehending the woman.
According to police, the woman ran into the Washington Diner, 6 Route 31 in Washington Borough, which was filled with patrons, while holding a knife and suffering from visible self-inflicted injuries.
Washington Township officers responded and used a conducted energy device, or CED, commonly known as a Taser, allowing officers at the scene to safely disarm the woman.
An officer then applied a tourniquet to control her bleeding and provided medical aid until emergency medical services arrived, according to police.
All Washington Township officers involved in the response were awarded Unit Citation Awards for their roles in the incident, police said.
