Mountain Lake launches free floating classroom program

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — The Mountain Lake Community Association is launching a floating classroom program this summer, offering residents and visitors a chance to learn about the lake from the water.

The Mountain Lake Floating Classroom Program will take participants aboard the Sanhica, an 18-foot pontoon boat, for educational tours of Mountain Lake.

During the trips, participants will learn about the lake’s natural and cultural history, measure water quality, collect zooplankton and view them under a microscope, and learn about plants and animals that live in and around the lake.

Participants will also have the opportunity to spot birds and other wildlife, with binoculars provided.

The program is supported by a grant from the Highlands Coalition and is free to attend. Reservations are available on a first-come, first-served basis for individuals or groups of up to about five people.

Remaining trips are scheduled for 10 a.m. July 25, Aug. 1, Aug. 15 and Sept. 5. Additional dates may be added as the season continues.

Reservations can be made by emailing MLCA@mt-lake.org.

The program is administered by the Mountain Lake Community Association, a nonprofit volunteer organization founded in 1967 and dedicated to the health and welfare of Mountain Lake and the surrounding community.
