FLORHAM PARK BOROUGH, NJ (Morris County) – Police recovered a handgun and a high-capacity magazine during a traffic stop in Florham Park Borough last month.
On Friday, January 24, at around 5:20 p.m., an officer stopped a vehicle on Park Ave. for having an expired out-of-state registration. During his interaction with the driver, a 28-year-old female from Hanover Township, the officer observed her attempting to intentionally delay looking for the vehicle documents, police said.
Eventually, the driver opened a compartment to retrieve her documents, and the officer immediately noticed weapon parts inside. During a follow-up conversation, it became apparent that there was a handgun and ammunition in the vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the driver was not a licensed gun holder in New Jersey, police said.
After searching the vehicle, the officer recovered a handgun, a high-capacity magazine (illegal in New Jersey), and several boxes of ammunition, police said.
The woman, whose identity was not released, was arrested and charged with driving an unregistered vehicle, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a high-capacity ammunition magazine. She was transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing, police said.
