Police say heroin was found in grocery bag a rideshare driver said was for delivery in Sussex County

FRANKLIN BOROUGH, N.J. (Sussex County) — An East Orange man was charged with possession of heroin following a motor vehicle stop in Franklin Borough last month, police said.

Franklin Borough police said Royston N. English, 43, was charged the evening of Dec. 21 after being stopped on Route 23.

During the investigation, English told officers he was operating for a rideshare service but did not have any passengers in the vehicle at the time. He also said he was transporting a single grocery bag to the Sussex County area for a client through a rideshare application, police said.

Officers later determined that the grocery bag contained heroin, authorities said.

English was charged with third-degree possession of heroin, along with related motor vehicle offenses. He was issued a complaint summons and released pending a future court appearance in Sussex County Superior Court in accordance with the New Jersey Bail Reform Act.
