Police warning people about scammers impersonating law enforcement

FLEMINGTON BOROUGH, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Flemington Borough Police Department is warning residents of phone scammers posing as law enforcement.

A resident contacted police on Saturday morning in an attempt to get in contact with Lt. Richard Evans. He left a voicemail on her phone and requested a phone call back, police said.

That phone number, which is not linked to the police department, had a voicemail box with someone claiming to be the Flemington Borough Police Department.

If you received a phone call or voicemail from someone who claims to be a member of their agency, “specifically with a southern accent”, do not engage that person, police said.

Resident’s can call their non emergency phone line at 908-782-3434 to verify if a police officer needs to speak with you.
