Portion of Shunpike Road in Morris County to be closed starting Aug. 19 for milling and paving

Milling and Paving Project Anticipated to Be Completed Over Five Days

CHATHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – Beginning Monday, Aug. 19, Shunpike Road from the intersection of Loantaka Way to Southern Boulevard in Chatham Township will be closed for milling and paving work.

The project is expected to last five days, with work scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Detours will be in place and significant traffic delays are anticipated. Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes.

Detour Routes

For Northbound Traffic on Loantaka Way:

  • Turn right onto Woodland Road.
  • Turn right onto Green Village Road, which leads to Shunpike Road.

For Southbound Traffic on Loantaka Way:

  • Turn left onto Spring Valley Road.
  • Continue onto Green Village Road, which leads to Shunpike Road.

For Westbound Traffic on Shunpike Road:

  • Turn left onto Green Village Road.
  • Continue onto Spring Valley Road.
  • Turn right onto Loantaka Way, leading back to Shunpike Road.

Residents along Shunpike Road and Chatham-Day School will have special access. Police Traffic Directors will be present on-site to assist in navigating through the work zone.

The work is being completed by Renda Roads Paving, under contract with New Jersey American Water. For additional information, questions or concerns, contact the Morris County Division of Engineering and Transportation at 973-285-6750.
