Commissioner Van Doren joins community to celebrate Spring Run Dairy’s 5th annual open house in Pittstown

PITTSTOWN, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Hunterdon County Commissioner Deputy Director Shaun C. Van Doren joined local farmers, families, and community members on Saturday, June 7, to celebrate Spring Run Dairy’s 5th Annual Open House and recognize the farm’s contributions to local agriculture and sustainable dairy production.

The event, hosted by co-owners Dan and Sarah Lyness, marked the fifth anniversary of the on-farm creamery at Spring Run Dairy, where the couple bottles their own whole white and chocolate milk from a herd of Jersey and Holstein cows.

“Spring Run Dairy is a great example of local agriculture at its best — hard work, innovation, and connection to community,” said Van Doren. “Open house events like this bring people closer to the farming process and serve as a reminder of the essential role farms play in Hunterdon County.”

Guests attending the open house enjoyed hayride tours, farm demonstrations, and activities featuring local vendors. One highlight included the Kick Butt Kids 4-H Goat Club offering a hands-on dairy goat milking experience for children and families.

As part of the event, Van Doren presented the Lyness family with a proclamation from the Hunterdon County Board of Commissioners, recognizing their excellence in delivering fresh, premium-quality dairy products to residents and underscoring the importance of local agriculture in enhancing food security and economic sustainability.

Spring Run Dairy’s success has been bolstered by a USDA grant that helped fund the construction of the on-site creamery, allowing the family to bring locally bottled milk directly to the community. The dairy also recently earned a Grade-A accreditation, a milestone that reflects its ongoing commitment to producing safe, high-standard dairy products.

“Seeing families and residents get hands-on experience with farm life is exactly what keeps our agricultural traditions alive,” Van Doren added. “Spring Run Dairy represents everything that makes Hunterdon County special — our deep agricultural roots, dedication to fresh, locally sourced food, and the strong bond between farmers and the community.”
