Project Self-Sufficiency to host celebration for breast cancer survivors
NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — Breast cancer survivors are invited to attend a free celebration of life event hosted by Project Self-Sufficiency on June 6 in Newton.
The Survivor Celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature guest speakers, breakout sessions, wellness exhibits, music, lunch and interactive activities focused on health, recovery and support for survivors.
The event’s keynote presentation will be delivered by author, life strategist and motivational speaker Diana Perez. Medical oncologist Dr. May Abdo-Matkiwsky and breast surgeon Dr. Priya Jadeja will lead a question-and-answer session alongside a panel of medical experts.

“We are delighted to gather to applaud the lives of these remarkable breast cancer survivors,” noted Project Self-Sufficiency Executive Director Deborah Berry-Toon. “This celebration teaches women how to maintain their well-being, gives them the opportunity to get the latest facts about breast cancer, and most importantly, invites them to relax and have some fun. We are grateful to all the individuals and organizations who have agreed to join in this special celebration of life.”
The event also will feature music by pianist Anita Raisch, raffles and informational exhibits from healthcare and wellness organizations.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the upcoming “Miles for Mel” walkathon, held in memory of former Project Self-Sufficiency Leadership Council member Melissa Saccerro.
Participating organizations and vendors include Atlantic Health, Kessler Rehabilitation/ReVital Cancer Rehab, La Roche-Posay Dermatological Skincare, Mary Kay Cosmetics, NJ Cancer Education and Early Detection, Regional Cancer Care Associates, Sparta Cancer Center, the Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council and the Sussex County YMCA/Live Strong Program.
