Reward offered in investigation of abandoned dogs across Sussex County
SUSSEX COUNTY, N.J. — Authorities are offering a reward as they investigate multiple incidents involving the abandonment of dogs in three Sussex County communities.
The New Jersey State Police are investigating cases reported Monday, March 16, in Stillwater, Lafayette and Wantage, where multiple small-breed dogs were found abandoned under what officials described as concerning circumstances.
Some of the animals have been recovered, but rescue efforts remain ongoing as authorities and volunteers work to locate additional dogs and ensure their safety and care.
“These acts of abandonment are not only cruel but also illegal,” said Sussex County Sheriff Michael Strada. “Law enforcement is committed to identifying those responsible and holding them accountable.”
The Sussex County Sheriff’s Crimestoppers program is offering a $500 reward for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible.
Officials are urging anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling 973-300-CRIME (2746) or by visiting the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office website to complete a Crimestoppers tip form.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing.
