Commissioner Kuhl joins community for Hunterdon County Stigma Free pancake event

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Hunterdon County Commissioner Jeff Kuhl joined residents, partner agencies and community service providers Sunday, Dec. 7, for the Hunterdon County Stigma Free Task Force’s annual “Pancakes with Maple the Snowman” holiday breakfast at the County Complex on Route 12.

The free community event brought together families, local organizations and behavioral health advocates for a morning of festive activities and resource sharing focused on mental health and wellness.

Commissioner Kuhl, a strong supporter of the county’s stigma-free initiative, said the gathering underscored the importance of community support.

“Today’s event is a strong reminder of the strength that comes from a community united by compassion and understanding. The Stigma Free Task Force creates an environment where essential mental health and wellness resources are accessible to families, while promoting a supportive community for all residents,” Kuhl said.

The event featured a pancake breakfast, crafts, games and an appearance by holiday character “Maple the Snowman,” who added seasonal cheer for children and families. Local agencies and affiliated providers hosted resource tables with information on safety, stress relief, behavioral health support and other tools for navigating the holiday season.

Organizers also collected donations of new or gently used winter outerwear and nonperishable food items to support local residents in need.

In 2023, Kuhl led the “Stigma Free in ‘23” campaign, which resulted in all 26 municipalities in Hunterdon County adopting resolutions establishing stigma-free communities and encouraging supportive behavioral health environments at home, in schools, in workplaces and throughout the community.

The Hunterdon County Stigma Free Task Force continues to promote behavioral health awareness, reduce stigma and connect residents with support services. County officials said events like the annual pancake breakfast help strengthen community ties while making resources more accessible to families.
