Rolling Hills Recovery Center launches Equine Therapy Program in partnership with Hope’s Promise
CHESTER, NJ (Morris County) – Rolling Hills Recovery Center (RHRC), a leading addiction treatment center in New Jersey, is excited to announce the launch of its new Equine Therapy program, in collaboration with Hope’s Promise, a non-profit organization located in Chester.
This partnership introduces a highly effective, innovative therapeutic approach for those seeking recovery. Sessions will be led by certified equine therapists at Hope’s Promise, offering clients a chance to heal emotionally, build trust, and overcome mental health challenges in a supportive, natural environment.
Animal-assisted therapy, particularly equine therapy, is becoming an integral part of mental health treatment. This approach leverages the unique bond between humans and animals to address challenges such as trauma, depression, stress, and substance abuse.
Horses are used as therapeutic tools in equine-assisted therapies. During therapy sessions, clients engage in activities such as feeding, guiding, and grooming horses, all under the supervision of a mental health professional. This type of therapy helps clients build self-confidence, emotional control, and accountability.
Maureen Coultas, founder and director of Hope’s Promise, expressed her enthusiasm about the partnership: “We’re thrilled to partner with Rolling Hills Recovery Center to offer equine therapy. Horses have a remarkable ability to connect with people, often leading to emotional breakthroughs that can truly transform lives.”
Founded in 2012 by Maureen Coultas, Hope’s Promise has become a leading therapeutic riding center. With a herd of six horses, including Chief Justice, and four miniature horses, the center has seen significant growth. Thanks to dedicated volunteers and a variety of equine programs offered both on-site and off-site, Hope’s Promise continues to make a positive impact on the community.
“This collaboration with Hope’s Promise adds a powerful and unique dimension to our holistic approach at Rolling Hills Recovery Center,” said Laura Riley, LCADC, CCS, Clinical Director at Rolling Hills Recovery Center. “We believe this therapeutic experience will help our clients connect with their authentic selves in ways other therapies cannot.”
Horses’ gentle nature allows them to form strong bonds with clients, creating a judgment-free rapport that helps people feel safe enough to open up. In this nurturing environment, clients can explore their emotions and begin healing in ways they may not have thought possible. The transformative power of this relationship is truly remarkable.
Rolling Hills Recovery Center will take clients to Hope’s Promise in Chester, NJ, for equine-assisted therapy. This partnership aims to support individuals recovering from addiction and mental health disorders by leveraging the power of human-animal interaction. Equine therapy has been shown to help individuals address emotional and psychological issues, build self-esteem, and develop emotional resilience.
“Working with horses offers clients a mirror to reflect on their behaviors and emotions,” said Mike Levy, Executive Director of Rolling Hills Recovery Center. “The bond that forms between clients and horses helps them gain deeper insights into their feelings and fosters trust, empathy, and emotional regulation.”
The Equine Therapy program at Rolling Hills Recovery Center is designed to help clients achieve personal and emotional growth through their unique connection with horses. This approach complements, rather than replaces, other treatment programs. It is designed to work alongside traditional therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), group counseling, and mindfulness practices, providing a hands-on approach that is both engaging and effective.
