Route 206 lane and shoulder closures to begin Monday in Somerset County

Lane and shoulder closures expected to continue for approximately one year

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ – Route 206 is scheduled to have right shoulder and lane closures in both directions
between Bridge Point Road in Montgomery Township and Doctors Way in Hillsborough Township beginning Monday and continuing for approximately one year, as an ADA improvement project begins in Somerset County.

This work is not a part of the Route 206, Doctors Way to Valley Road Corridor Improvement project.

From 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, and continuing daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at the same time for approximately one year, the right shoulder on Route 206 northbound and southbound is scheduled to be closed from Bridge Point Road to Doctors Way.

The right lane will only be closed as needed, where there is no shoulder. Where possible, work will take place off the roadway, behind the curb line, eliminating the need for either a lane or shoulder closure. The closures are necessary to upgrade ADA-compliant curbs and sidewalks, as well as upgrade traffic signals, throughout the project limits.

Work is expected to continue intermittently over the course of one year and is not expected to take place every day. At least one lane will be maintained on Route 206 in both directions. Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution, and expect delays while driving through the work zone.

This work is part of a $5.9 million federally funded maintenance project that will upgrade curbs and sidewalks to comply with ADA standards in various locations throughout Warren, Hunterdon, Somerset, Middlesex, and Union counties. This portion of the contract will improve curbs and sidewalks, as well as upgrade traffic signals, along Route 206 between Bridge Point Road in Montgomery and Doctors Way in Hillsborough, Somerset County. The project is expected to be completed in late-fall 2025.

Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website for real-time travel information.
