Route 31 northbound lane and shoulder closures Friday as pavement project advances in Hunterdon County
Closure to be in place approximately one month for paving
CLINTON, NJ (Hunterdon County) – The Route 31 northbound right lane and shoulder are scheduled to be closed Friday as the Route 31, I-78/Route 22 to Grayrock Road pavement reconstruction project advances in Clinton.
Beginning at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 26, the right lane and shoulder on Route 31 northbound is scheduled to be closed between Country Club Drive/Walnut Pond Road and Beaver Avenue.
The closures are expected to remain in place for approximately one month for milling and paving.
The $24.8 million federally funded Route 31, I-78/CR 22 to Grayrock Road pavement reconstruction project will replace deteriorated concrete pavement with full depth asphalt reconstruction of the roadway in Clinton.
In addition, the project will realign the intersection of Center Street eastbound and Route 31 southbound to improve sight distance. The acceleration lane from I-78/Route 22 westbound to Route 31 northbound will be extended to provide more space to merge. The project also includes drainage improvements, guiderail replacement, lighting and overhead sign installation, and concrete deck repairs on the bridges.
The project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2026.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website for real-time travel information.
