Roxbury High School choirs win six first-place trophies at Virginia festival

ROXBURY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Seven choirs from Roxbury High School earned top awards at a regional music competition held last weekend in Williamsburg, Virginia, school officials said.

The groups competed in the Showcase Music Festival, bringing home six first-place trophies and one second-place finish. The choirs also received six superior ratings, with the Classic Sounds Honors ensemble winning Best Overall Choir.

Participating groups included the Roxbury Glee Club, Melodies, Vocal Jazz, Revelation, Chorale, Classic Sounds Honors and the Roxbury Festival Choir. The ensembles are directed by Patrick Hachey, Krista Sweer and Ciera Reingold.

Several students were individually recognized for their performances. Logan Batsch, Jasper Fernandes, Malia Gichana, Juventino Torres and Lillia Vega received Outstanding Vocalist Awards. Jericko Guerrero was honored with the Outstanding Student Accompaniment Award.

School officials praised the students for their achievements and representation of the district at the competition.
