Roxbury police warn against planned student scavenger hunt tied to illegal activity

ROXBURY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Police are warning students and parents about a planned “Senior Scavenger Hunt” after learning the event encouraged participants to commit illegal acts for points, according to the Roxbury Township Police Department.

The activity, which was promoted on social media, was scheduled to take place Saturday, Oct. 4. Police stressed the scavenger hunt is not a school-sanctioned event.

School officials addressed the matter with students during an assembly and sent notices to parents earlier this week. Police commended the school for moving quickly to discourage participation.

“While this event appears to have been organized by a small group, we recognize it does not reflect the majority of our students, who continue to represent Roxbury proudly,” police said in a statement.

Authorities said officers will be patrolling throughout the township on Saturday and warned that any illegal activity will not be tolerated.

“Parents, please speak with your children about the risks and consequences of their actions,” police said. “We fully support our students and want everyone to enjoy their school year in a SAFE and respectful way.”
