Scooter rider injured in hit-and-run crash in Sussex County

NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — A scooter rider was injured in a hit-and-run crash Friday night in Newton, according to police.

The collision occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on Water Street, where a pedestrian riding a scooter was struck by a motor vehicle, police said. The driver fled the scene after the crash.

Emergency responders arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of the victim’s injuries was not immediately released.

The Newton Police Department said the incident remains under investigation as officers work to identify the vehicle and driver involved.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has information about it to contact the Newton Police Department at 973-383-2525.
