I-80 westbound lane closures scheduled for pothole repairs, restriping on Feb. 25-26 in Mount Arlington Borough
If the work is not completed, it will continue on Thursday, February 27, during the same hours
MOUNT ARLINGTON BOROUGH, NJ (Morris County) – I-80 westbound is scheduled for lane closures on Tuesday for priority pothole repairs and restriping near Exit 30/Howard Boulevard, as part of the I-80 bridges over Howard Boulevard replacement project in Mount Arlington Borough.
From 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, and again on Wednesday, February 26, during the same hours, two lanes on I-80 westbound will be closed starting at milepost 31.5 (before Exit 30/Howard Boulevard) through milepost 29.9. At least one lane will remain open. I-80 eastbound will not be affected.
The closures are necessary for pothole repairs caused by normal wear and tear, as well as the harsh winter, which has brought frequent precipitation and significant freeze/thaw cycles. I-80 westbound will also be restriped. If work is not completed on Wednesday, it will continue on Thursday, February 27, during the same hours.
The $65.4 million federally funded project will replace the existing bridges carrying I-80 eastbound and westbound over Howard Boulevard/CR 516, which are in poor condition. Improvements will include raising the vertical clearance of each bridge, widening the shoulders, lengthening acceleration and deceleration lanes on I-80, and widening the ramps to and from Howard Boulevard. The Howard Boulevard intersection will be reconfigured to improve operational performance.
The project will also include upgraded traffic signals and lighting, as well as ADA-compliant sidewalks and crosswalks. Sidewalks will be extended to the Mount Arlington Train Station for improved pedestrian and bicycle safety and mobility. The project is expected to be completed by summer 2027.
