Seeing Eye celebrates new outdoor enrichment project for dogs at Morris County campus

CHESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County)The Seeing Eye, Inc. hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday to unveil its new Chester Campus Outdoor Enrichment Project, funded by the Margaret A. Darrin Charitable Trust.

The Chester Campus is home to the organization’s breeding dogs and is where Seeing Eye puppies are born and raised for their first couple of months before being placed with volunteer puppy raisers.

The upgrades include astroturf, new play equipment, sun shades, and a mini water park, which has already proven popular with Labrador retrievers, golden retrievers, and German shepherds. The water features were made possible through support from the Sol & Margaret Berger Foundation.

Additional enhancements include new fetch yards for one-on-one play time, expanded walking paths for volunteer dog walkers, and an accessible visitor path with displays describing the stages of puppy development and the experiences of the breeding dogs during their stay at the campus.

“A great day at The Seeing Eye for the ribbon cutting for the Chester Campus Outdoor Enrichment project (Doggie Playground)!!!!” Sen. Anthony Bucco said.

“Congratulations to The Seeing Eye on today’s opening of the Chester Campus Outdoor Enrichment Project, made possible by the Margaret A. Darrin Charitable Trust. Every Seeing Eye dog is born right here in Chester Township, and now they and their moms will have more outdoor space to build their strength and agility,” Assemblyman Mike Inganamort said.

The Seeing Eye thanked the donors, staff, and volunteers who made the project possible, noting that the dogs are “already so incredibly thrilled by their new play yards.”
