Wayback Burgers hosts second annual Nine Patty Challenge, Touch-A-Truck event in Sussex County

HAMPTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – Families and first responders gathered in Hampton Township on April 29 for Wayback Burgers’ second annual Nine Patty Challenge and Touch-A-Truck event, a community-focused afternoon of food, activities and friendly competition.

Held at the restaurant’s Hampton House Road location, the free event brought together local residents along with members of the Newton and Hampton police, fire and EMS departments.

The highlight of the event was the Nine Patty Challenge, where first responders competed to finish Wayback Burgers’ towering nine-patty burger. Participants from Newton and Hampton departments faced off following last year’s win by Hampton Fire and Rescue.

Attendees also had the opportunity to explore emergency vehicles and meet first responders during the Touch-A-Truck portion of the event, which allowed children and families to take photos and learn more about local public safety services.

Franchise owners Wahab and Laila Abbasi, who operate the Newton location, said the event was designed to bring the community together while recognizing those who serve it.

In addition to the activities, the restaurant introduced several new menu items, including chicken nuggets with dipping sauces, Blue Raspberry Lemonade and a Red, White & Blue Shake in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

The event also marked the launch of May Community Appreciation Weeks, offering discounts to first responders, nurses and teachers with valid identification.

Organizers said the annual event reflects an ongoing effort to strengthen community ties and celebrate local service professionals in a family-friendly setting.
