Senator Bucco issues statement on update regarding I-80 sinkhole repairs in Wharton Borough

WHARTON BOROUGH, NJ (Morris County) – Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco (R-25) released the following statement regarding the latest update on the Interstate 80 repairs:

“As work continues on Interstate 80 following the significant sinkhole damage, I hope it comes as welcomed news to the residents, commuters, and businesses that the repairs remain on schedule, and I very much appreciate your patience during this extremely frustrating ordeal.

Two teams are working concurrently on both the eastbound and westbound sides to expedite the repairs with the eastbound side expected to have two lanes reopened by mid-May, and two lanes on the westbound side are on track to reopen by the end of May. The full reopening of all lanes in both directions is expected by June 25.

Lastly, the repairs under the I-80 Bridges over Route 15 were completed on Friday, May 2.

I will continue to work closely with NJDOT to monitor progress and advocate for any opportunities to accelerate the timeline without compromising safety or quality. Again, I’m grateful to the residents, commuters, and businesses for their understanding during this complex, but necessary, repair process, and I remain committed to keeping everyone informed as the work advances.”
