Senator Bucco tours breeding facility of The Seeing Eye, meets with leadership to discuss access issues
MORRISTOWN, NJ (Morris County) – Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco (R-25) recently toured The Seeing Eye and met with leadership to discuss access issues that guide dog handlers face in New Jersey.
“The Seeing Eye has been a trailblazer and unwavering leader in the service dog industry for nearly a decade, empowering individuals who are blind and visually impaired to live with greater independence and dignity,” said Bucco. “Their tireless advocacy for people with disabilities has been transformative, not only driving policies that expand access for the disability community nationwide, but also by shining a light on the extraordinary work these incredible canines do every single day. I look forward to continuing our work together to achieve even greater success in the future”
“The steadfast support and understanding Senator Bucco has shown for Seeing Eye teams throughout his career has been immensely encouraging, especially amid growing concerns over access denials faced by guide dog handlers,” said Melissa Allman, Sr. Specialist of Advocacy & Government Relations for The Seeing Eye. “We look forward to strengthening protections for the rights of service dog handlers in New Jersey through continued collaboration and support from Senator Bucco and his colleagues in the New Jersey Legislature.”
In the 2018-2019 session, Sen. Bucco’ bill, S-2849, that designated Seeing Eye® dog as the state dog was signed into law.
This past September, Sen. Bucco introduced a bill, S-3596, that would increases penalties for denying access to public facilities, New Jersey Transit, and transportation network companies to service dogs and their handlers.
