Sgt. James Burns retires after 25 years of service with Washington Township Police Department

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) — On Thursday, April 25, the Washington Township Police Department honored the retirement of Sgt. James Burns, commemorating more than 25 years of dedicated service in law enforcement.

Friends, family, colleagues, and community members gathered at police headquarters to recognize Sgt. Burns’ long-standing commitment to public safety and his significant contributions to both the department and the community.

Sgt. Burns began his career in 1999 as a New Jersey State Park Ranger. In the summer of 2001, he joined the Washington Township Police Department, where he served in numerous specialized roles, including EMT and CPR Coordinator, member of the Morris and Hunterdon Crash Team, Rapid Deployment Team, Traffic Unit, and most recently, as the Township School Resource Officer.

Sgt. Burns’ presence and professionalism left a lasting impact on the department and the community he served. His dedication and leadership will be missed.

The department extended its sincere congratulations and best wishes to Sgt. Burns as he begins the next chapter of his life.

Born and raised in Northwest NJ, Jay has a degree in Communications and has had a life-long interest in local radio and various styles of music.
