Son arrested, accused of killing his 61-year-old father on Christmas Eve in Morris County, prosecutor says

BOONTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – Police have arrested a man in connection to the death of his father, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll.

Kyle Meyer, 33, of Boonton Township has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. He has been detained at the Morris County Correctional Facility, pending a detention hearing, Carroll said.

On Dec. 24, at around 1:15 p.m., police were dispatched to a residence on Old Denville Road in Boonton Township in response to an emergency call, Carroll said.

Gregory Meyer, 61, was discovered dead, and a subsequent investigation determined his son, Kyle, who resides in the same residence, to be a suspect. Following a further investigation, he was detained at around 9:00 p.m. in Paterson, Carroll said.

The Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an examination of Gregory Carroll said.

“This investigation remains active and ongoing. At this time, authorities are not seeking additional suspects. There is no danger to the public,” Carroll said.
