Sparta Dairy employee charged with theft, police say

SPARTA TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — An employee of a Sparta business has been charged in connection with an alleged theft, authorities said.

Police said officers received a report March 13 of suspected employee theft at Sparta Dairy. The report included documentation and video surveillance indicating possible irregularities involving financial transactions over an extended period.

Following an investigation, Maria Rizzo, 36, of Branchville, was taken into custody and charged with third-degree theft of movable property.

Authorities said the alleged conduct occurred over the past year.

Rizzo was processed and released on a summons complaint pending a required appearance in Superior Court in Newton.
