St. Luke’s Health Network earns top national marks for social responsibility from Lown Institute
St. Luke’s University Health Network has been named one of the most socially responsible health systems in the nation, earning an “A” grade in the 2025-26 Lown Institute Hospitals Index and ranking 5th out of 322 health systems across the country.
The independent Massachusetts-based Lown Institute awarded St. Luke’s high marks for equity, value of care, patient outcomes, and overall social responsibility — making it one of just 5% of over 2,700 U.S. hospitals to earn Honor Roll status.
“This report’s findings reflect St. Luke’s dedication to expand access to our Network’s world-class, outcomes-driven quality care,” said Rajika Reed, Ph.D., MPH, MEd, St. Luke’s Vice President of Community Health. “As the Lehigh Valley’s only locally based, independent health care network, proudly caring for those in need for over 150 years, we are fully committed to and invested in advancing the wellbeing of our communities.”
St. Luke’s Hospital – Upper Bucks Campus was ranked No. 1 out of 114 acute care and critical access hospitals in Pennsylvania and 14th nationally for social responsibility. St. Luke’s University Hospital – Bethlehem, which includes the Allentown and Sacred Heart campuses, ranked first in Pennsylvania for patient safety and eighth overall nationwide.
Eleven hospitals in the St. Luke’s system achieved Honor Roll status, including:
- St. Luke’s University Hospital (Bethlehem, Allentown, Sacred Heart)
- St. Luke’s Anderson Campus
- St. Luke’s Carbon Campus
- St. Luke’s Easton Campus
- St. Luke’s Miners Campus
- St. Luke’s Monroe Campus
- St. Luke’s Upper Bucks Campus
- St. Luke’s Warren Campus
- Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital
“Hospitals are facing unprecedented political and financial challenges,” said Dr. Vikas Saini, president of the Lown Institute. “In this uncertain environment, it’s more important than ever to support the socially responsible hospitals who are delivering high-quality care to all in their community.”
Now in its sixth year, the Lown Hospitals Index evaluates hospitals based on more than 50 metrics, including community benefit, racial inclusivity, and prevention of medical overuse. Data sources include Medicare claims, patient safety reports, IRS filings, and more.
