State police seek witnesses in fatal multi-vehicle crash on I-80 in Morris County

WHARTON BOROUGH, N.J. (Morris County) — New Jersey State Police are seeking the public’s assistance as they continue investigating a fatal multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 that killed a Piscataway woman earlier this month.

The crash occurred April 9 at about 8:08 a.m. on I-80 west near milepost 34.5 in Wharton Borough, according to state police

A preliminary investigation found that Tisha R. Hutchinson, 39, of Piscataway, was driving a Subaru SUV westbound when it was struck from behind by an Audi SUV.

The impact caused the Subaru to veer right and strike a guardrail. The Audi then continued west and struck a Pontiac passenger vehicle, which was pushed forward into a Chevrolet SUV, authorities said.

Hutchinson sustained fatal injuries in the crash.

The driver of the Audi and two juvenile passengers suffered moderate injuries and were transported to an area hospital. No other injuries were reported.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or the events prior to or following it, is asked to contact the Troop “B” Netcong Station Criminal Investigation Office at 973‑347‑1001.
