Suspected DUI driver with ‘ghost gun’ arrested after eluding police, crashing in Hunterdon County
BLOOMSBURY BOROUGH, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A Pennsylvania man with a ‘ghost gun’ was arrested after allegedly eluding New Jersey State Police and then crashing in Bloomsbury Saturday morning, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Sergeant Charles Marchan.
A trooper patrolling Interstate 78 attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop for a moving violation. The vehicle then failed to stop, fled eastbound and exited I-78 at exit 7, Marchan said.
A short time later, another trooper not involved in the initial motor vehicle stop observed the vehicle disabled from a motor vehicle crash on Route 173, Marchan said.
The suspect, who was later identified as Franniel Reyes, 20, of Allentown, was observed by a trooper exiting the disabled vehicle and fleeing on foot. With the assistance of other troopers, they located him a short time later, Marchan said.
Reyes was arrested, and a further investigation determined he was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, Marchan said.
A search of the vehicle turned up a ghost gun, high-capacity magazines, and hollow-point ammunition, Marchan said.
Reyes was charged with eluding, obstruction, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of high-capacity magazines, hollow point ammunition, and possession of a ghost gun. He was lodged in Warren County Jail pending a detention hearing.
“This remains an active investigation,” Marchan said.
