NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – Sussex County Community College (SCCC) has announced the addition of a new athletic program to its lineup for the upcoming 2025-2026 academic year: golf.

This exciting new sport will be available for both men and women, and students will have the opportunity to join the newly formed Skylanders Golf Team.

The Skylanders Golf Team will begin recruiting new players for the Fall 2025 season, marking a significant expansion of SCCC’s athletic offerings.

Currently, the College offers 12 sports programs: men’s and women’s basketball, soccer, esports, and wrestling, along with baseball, football, softball, men’s lacrosse, and women’s volleyball. With the addition of golf, the College aims to provide students with a diverse and competitive athletic experience while fostering personal growth, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

“We are thrilled to introduce golf to our athletic programs and provide students with the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level,” said Told Poltersdorf, Associate Dean of Athletes at SCCC. “Golf is a sport that combines physical skill with mental discipline, and we believe it will be a great fit for our Skylanders student-athletes.”

The new program will focus on developing student-athletes’ skills on and off the course, emphasizing teamwork, dedication, and academic success. The College is actively recruiting new students to participate on the team who are eager to be part of this exciting new chapter in SCCC athletics.

“Building a competitive and inclusive golf team will be the first step in the process,” said Poltersdorf. “This is an excellent opportunity for students to challenge themselves while representing the College.”

Golf practices and competitions will take place at local courses in the area, offering students access to high-quality facilities. The program will compete against other regional community colleges in various competitions, creating a strong and supportive athletic environment at SCCC.
