Sussex County Community College to host 9/11 memorial ceremony on 24th anniversary

NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — Sussex County Community College will mark the 24th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks with a remembrance ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 9 a.m. at the college’s 9/11 Memorial on Connor Green.

The ceremony will feature local firefighters, police officers, and EMS personnel showing their support. The Newton Choir is scheduled to perform the national anthem, followed by remarks from keynote speakers and a welcome from Herb Yardley, chair of the SCCC Board of Trustees.

A wreath-laying ceremony and the playing of Taps by Bugles Across America will honor those who lost their lives.

“Twenty-four years have passed since the tragic events of September 11, 2001. As a nation, we united in solidarity with our fellow Americans,” the college said in announcing the event.

The college is located at One College Hill Road in Newton.
