Sussex County corrections corporal retires after 25 years of service

NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — Corporal Jason Kimble has retired from the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Corrections after 25 years of service, Sheriff Michael Strada announced.

Kimble was hired in December 2000 and spent his entire career with the Bureau of Corrections. A graduate of Newton High School, he attended Lock Haven University and Montclair State University, where he studied health and physical education. He is also a graduate of the Passaic County Police Academy, Class 01-24BCC.

During his career, Kimble served as a member of the agency’s Tactical Response Unit and Special Operations Group and received extensive training in crisis negotiation, officials said.

Kimble is a three-time recipient of the Sheriff’s Good Conduct Award and also received the Honorable Service Award and the Sheriff’s Achievement Award. In April 2017, he was awarded the Wound Medal for major injuries sustained in the line of duty.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Kimble was seriously injured while subduing a physically combative inmate who had just been convicted of murder. The injuries required months of rehabilitation, though he was able to return to full duty in just under eight months.

Kimble also represented the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office in the Police Unity Tour, completing the four-day bicycle ride from Florham Park to Washington, D.C., 11 times to help raise awareness for law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

Sheriff Strada congratulated Kimble on his retirement and wished him well in his future endeavors.
