Sussex County heritage weekend to showcase history, art, and local culture Oct. 11–12

SUSSEX COUNTY, N.J. – The 15th Annual Sussex County Heritage Weekend, sponsored by the Sussex County Arts & Heritage Council (SCAHC), will take place October 11–12, 2025, offering residents and visitors the chance to explore the county’s rich history, art, and culture through tours of historic sites and museums.

The two-day event features dozens of participating locations across Sussex County, with sites open on Saturday, Sunday, or both. Among those open both days are the High Point State Park and NJ Veteran’s Monument in Wantage, Hill Memorial Museum in Newton, Old Monroe Schoolhouse in Hardyston, Peters Valley Gallery in Sandyston, Sparta Train Station, and the Sussex County Arts & Heritage Council in Newton.

Saturday-only participants include the Franklin Historical Heritage Museum, Foster-Armstrong House in Montague, Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum in Landing, and the Stillwater Historical Museum. On Sunday, visitors can explore the Branchville Borough Historical Museum, Ludlum-Mabee House in Lafayette, Lusscroft Farm in Wantage, Old Clove Church, and the Walpack Center Historic District, among others.

According to SCAHC, the weekend is designed to encourage residents to “explore the history of Sussex County” and provides a unique opportunity to experience local heritage firsthand. Participants are encouraged to check each site’s website or Facebook page for hours and details before visiting.

The program is funded by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the New Jersey Historical Commission, with additional support from the Sussex County Board of Commissioners.
