Sussex County man charged in theft of more than $7,000 from employer
FRANKLIN BOROUGH, N.J. (Sussex County) — A Hardyston Township man has been charged in connection with the theft of more than $7,000 from a Franklin Borough business, police said.
Rayan Pourshariati, 20, was arrested Feb. 13 following an investigation into recurring theft at the Irish Cottage Inn, according to authorities.
Police said the investigation found that Pourshariati, who had been employed at the establishment for several years, allegedly under-ringed cash transactions and retained customer payments for personal gain.
Authorities said the activity may have begun as early as January 2025, with total losses to the business exceeding $7,000.
Pourshariati has been charged with third-degree theft. He was issued a complaint summons and released pending an appearance in Sussex County Superior Court in accordance with New Jersey’s bail reform guidelines.
