Sussex County Sheriff’s Office celebrates retirement of longtime dispatcher Andrea Wehrenberg

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ – Sussex County Sheriff Michael F. Strada and the staff at the Sussex County Sheriff’s 911 Communications Center are honoring dispatch supervisor Andrea Wehrenberg as she retires after an impressive 30 years of dedicated service.

Andrea began her dispatching career with the Newton Police Department in July 1991, where she served until March 2020. During her tenure, she also worked as a police matron and training officer, contributing significantly to the department over her 27 years there.

In 2015, Andrea transitioned to the Sussex County Communications Center when it first opened. Her qualifications and leadership skills led to her promotion to supervisor just a year later, in March 2016. Since then, she has become a cornerstone of the Communications Center, serving as the training coordinator, TAC officer, and the most senior supervisor.

“Andrea has been an invaluable asset to our team,” Strada said. “Her expertise, commitment, and leadership have left a lasting impact on our operations and the community we serve.”

Throughout her career, Andrea has received numerous accolades, including multiple Dispatcher of the Month awards and letters of commendation for her outstanding service. Notably, she is the only dispatcher to receive a stork pin after providing life-saving instructions via 911 that resulted in the delivery of a baby.

All of the staff at the Sussex County Communications Center extend their best wishes to her in her retirement and recognize that her presence will certainly be missed.
