Sussex County Sheriff’s Office mourns the loss of retired K9 Roxi

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ – The Sussex County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of retired K9 Roxi, a narcotics detection dog, who passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 28.

K9 Roxi, who served for eight years alongside her partner, Detective Justin McCann, played a crucial role in numerous law enforcement operations. Over the course of her service, she responded to hundreds of calls, including school searches, DWI checkpoints, K9 demonstrations, and vehicle and residential searches. Roxi worked with every local law enforcement agency in Sussex County and was instrumental in assisting the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Narcotics Task Force and the New Jersey State Police.

Beyond Sussex County, K9 Roxi also aided in operations in Morris, Warren, and Union Counties, as well as collaborating with the United States Postal Inspection Service, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and Homeland Security.

Off-duty, Roxi lived with Detective McCann and his family, forming a special bond over the years.

Sussex County Sheriff Michael Strada, along with the entire Sussex County Sheriff’s Office, expressed their deepest condolences to Detective McCann and his family, acknowledging the profound loss of a loyal and dedicated partner. K9 Roxi will be remembered and missed by many.
