Sussex County to launch pilot Sunday transit service through Skylands Ride

SUSSEX COUNTY, N.J. — Sussex County will begin offering Sunday public transit service later this month through a new pilot program operated by Skylands Ride, county officials announced.

Grant funding has been secured to support the service, which will run Sundays from 8:20 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. starting Sept. 28, 2025, according to the Sussex County Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Community and Youth Services.

Sussex County residents have consistently expressed the need for expanded transit options during annual transportation hearings and countywide needs assessments, officials said.

“The County of Sussex is committed to addressing the vital needs of our residents,” stated Deputy Commissioner Director Jill Space. “We are excited to bring this new transportation option to our community which will provide residents with greater access to the opportunities the County has to offer.”

Skylands Ride’s Sunday service will not operate on county holidays. Residents can learn more about hours of operation and holiday schedules by calling 973-579-0480 or visiting www.sussex.nj.us.
