Sussex County woman dies from injuries after Route 206 crash in Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A 22-year-old Hopatcong woman has died from injuries sustained in a Feb. 3 crash on Route 206 in the Flanders section of Mount Olive, according to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

Prosecutors said Friday that Jamie Aughenbaugh, the driver of a Toyota Corolla involved in the crash, succumbed to her injuries at a later date.

Mount Olive police said officers responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls at approximately 2:51 p.m. Feb. 3 reporting a traffic collision on the highway. A preliminary investigation determined that a white Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 38-year-old man from Randall, Texas, collided with Aughenbaugh’s vehicle.

Both drivers were transported to Morristown Medical Center with serious injuries, authorities said.

Mount Olive police responded along with Atlantic EMS, the Flanders Fire Department and the Budd Lake Fire Department. The crash investigation is being conducted by the Mount Olive Police Department’s Investigations Division and Traffic Unit, with assistance from the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Unit and Criminal Investigative Section and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit.

Route 206 was closed in both directions for approximately three hours during the investigation, with the New Jersey Department of Transportation assisting with traffic diversion.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Mount Olive Police Department Traffic Unit at 973-691-0850, ext. 7555, or the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit at 973-285-6200.

A GoFundMe page created for Aughenbaugh described her as a recent University of Connecticut graduate who worked at the Jefferson House and The Beacon. The fundraiser states donations will help cover funeral and medical expenses for her family.
