Sussex County woman sentenced for unlawful possession of a weapon

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County has been sentenced for unlawful possession of a weapon, according to Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Annmarie Taggart.

Jessica Schaffer, 23, of Vernon Township was sentenced ton Oct. 27 before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton, Taggart said.

Schaffer was sentenced to probation for a period of two years. In addition to the standard conditions of probation, Schaffer was also sentenced to 30 days in the Morris County Correctional Facility, Taggart said.

Schaffer pled guilty on Aug. 2 to fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. She admitted to knowingly possessing a weapon under circumstances not manifestly appropriate for such lawful uses, Taggart said.

Schaffer was represented by Thomas Militano, Esq., and the State was represented by Special Deputy Attorney General and Acting Assistant Prosecutor Vanessa Henderson.
