The Great Gorge in Sussex county salutes Purple Heart recipients with free golf and climbing on Aug. 7
100-Hole Golf Challenge also introduced with proceeds being donated to The Purple Heart Foundation
VERNON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — The Great Gorge in Vernon will honor Purple Heart recipients on Thursday, Aug. 7, by offering them free admission to all on-site attractions, including golf, climbing, and aerial adventures, as part of its Purple Heart Day observance.
Recipients of the Purple Heart, awarded to U.S. military personnel wounded in combat, will have complimentary access to The Great Gorge Golf Club, 1Club Park Golf, and TreEscape Aerial Adventure Park. Immediate family members joining the fun will receive a 50% discount.
“Veterans, especially those awarded the Purple Heart, hold a special place in all of our hearts here at The Great Gorge,” said David Killin, general manager of The Great Gorge. “Offering these heroes free access to all that we have to offer here at The Great Gorge is a simple gesture to showcase our thanks for the sacrifices they’ve made. We encourage all to wear their medals proudly, and after the fun, hope everyone can join us at Hef’s Hut for themed specials and discounts all day long.”
In addition to Purple Heart Day, the venue is recognizing the entire month of August as a time to honor wounded veterans. To mark the occasion, The Great Gorge Golf Club has announced a “100-hole challenge.” Golfers who complete 100 holes at The Great Gorge before Aug. 31 will be entered to win free golf for the remainder of the year.
The challenge also serves a charitable purpose, raising funds for the Purple Heart Foundation. Donations will support the foundation’s efforts to enhance the quality of life for Purple Heart recipients and other honorably discharged veterans and their families.
Located in the woods of Vernon, The Great Gorge features a 27-hole George Fazio-designed championship course, New Jersey’s first “park golf” course at 1Club, and the TreEscape Aerial Adventure Park with climbing elements, rope walks, and zip lines.
For Purple Heart recipients and their families that wish to take advantage of a free round and discounted golf at The Great Gorge on August 7, reservations are requested to be made at least 72 hours in advance by calling the Great Gorge Golf Club Pro Shop at 862-801-7031.
