Thousands lose power in Warren, Morris counties after transmission line failure
NORTHWEST, N.J. – Thousands of customers in Warren and Morris counties were left without electricity Friday night after a transmission line failure in Hackettstown disrupted service, according to Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L).
Power outages began around 8 p.m. Friday, and full restoration was completed just before midnight, said Chris Hoenig, a spokesperson for JCP&L’s parent company, FirstEnergy.
Hoenig said the failure involved a high-voltage transmission line that carries electricity between substations.
At substations, voltage is lowered before electricity is sent through distribution lines to homes and businesses.
The failure left JCP&L’s Flanders substation without a power feed, cutting electricity to all customers served by the substation. The incident also affected other substations, resulting in scattered outages in additional areas.
All affected customers had their power restored just before midnight, Hoenig said.
