Two arrested in Morristown homicide, Hanover burglary and trespass cases
MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. — Two individuals have been arrested and charged in connection with a June 13 homicide investigation in Morristown, as well as other crimes in Hanover Township, Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll announced.
Enrique “Flaco” Vega, 33, and Cassandra West, 31, both homeless and known to frequent Morris County, were taken into custody on June 16 at the Broad Street rail station in Newark.
Authorities said Morristown police and paramedics responded around 9:14 a.m. June 13 to Patriots Path, south of Cory Road near the railroad tracks, where they found an unresponsive man on NJ Transit property. The victim, identified as Stanley M. Robinson, 65, of Dover, was pronounced dead at the scene. A postmortem examination determined Robinson died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Investigators allege Vega and West were present during a physical dispute between Robinson and another individual, identified as R.E. After Robinson was seriously injured, Vega and West allegedly failed to seek medical help.
Later, the pair allegedly stole $2,500 from the Red Carpet Inn in Hanover on June 14. Prosecutors said Vega took the cash while West acted as a lookout.
Vega and West are also accused of discovering R.E. deceased in a vacant home on Ridgedale Avenue in Hanover Township and tampering with the scene by discarding an empty heroin fold near the body. The body was later found by police on June 16.
Authorities said the investigation into Robinson’s death remains ongoing.
On June 17, Vega and West were charged by complaint-warrant in connection with the incidents.
In the Morristown homicide case, both Vega and West were charged with third-degree endangering an injured victim and defiant trespass, a petty disorderly persons offense.
In the Hanover Red Carpet Inn theft, Vega was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree theft, and third-degree conspiracy to commit burglary. West was charged with third-degree conspiracy to commit burglary and third-degree conspiracy to commit theft.
In the Ridgedale Avenue trespass case in Hanover, both Vega and West were charged with criminal trespass, a disorderly persons offense. Additionally, West was charged with fourth-degree tampering with evidence.
Vega is being held at the Morris County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing. West remains in custody.
