Two men arrested in Hunterdon County on drug charges after traffic stop

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Two men were arrested on drug charges in Clinton Township after a motor vehicle stop for a loud muffler and faulty headlight, police said.

An officer on patrol July 25 stopped a vehicle on Route 31 South near Longwood Drive after noticing the violations, according to the Clinton Township Police Department. The driver was identified as Omar V. Gonzalez, 26, of Clinton Township, and the passenger as Mahmoud H. Fahmy, 26, of Clinton.

Police said a K-9 unit detected narcotics after a free air sniff around the vehicle. A subsequent search turned up a ripped heroin wax fold, rubber bands and other items indicative of drug use. Fahmy was found with a tin containing 48 heroin wax folds, suspected cocaine and a Xanax pill, police said. Gonzalez later surrendered two plastic baggies of cocaine from his wallet.

Both men were arrested and taken to police headquarters. Fahmy was charged with possession of heroin, cocaine, Xanax and drug paraphernalia. Gonzalez was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and motor vehicle violations including possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, maintenance of lamps and having a loud muffler, police said.
