Police find weapons after arresting 2 on suspicion of shoplifting from Morris County Target store
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – Washington Township police arrested two people for allegedly shoplifting Saturday, one of whom allegedly possessed weapons.
On Feb. 3, officers responded to a shoplifting in progress at the Target store on Route 46 in Washington Township. Upon arriving, officers encountered two males, who were identified as a 37-year-old and a 40-year-old from Miami Gardens, FL, police said.
Upon taking them into custody, one of the men was found to be carrying an illegal loaded handgun, police said.
Washington Township Police detectives assisted and it was learned that the man also possessed an assault weapon and high-capacity magazines at their Airbnb. That weapon was also seized, police said.
The one man was charged with shoplifting and conspiracy. He was released pending a court appearance.
The other man was charged with shoplifting, conspiracy, unlawful possession of a handgun, unlawful possession of hollow point bullets, unlawful possession of and assault weapon and unlawful possession of high-capacity magazines. He was lodged in the the Morris County Correctional Facility.
