Two women charged with drug offenses after traffic stop in Morris County

HANOVER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Two women were arrested and charged with drug-related offenses following a traffic stop in Hanover Township, according to township police.

Police said the incident occurred Feb. 18 when an officer observed a vehicle leaving the QuickChek parking lot and later stopped it after observing traffic violations.

Authorities identified the driver as Allison Shrewsbury, 44, of Flemington, and the passenger as Helga Stoffels, 33, of Washington.

During the stop, police observed a capsule inside the vehicle. Neither occupant could identify the substance, and the driver granted officers consent to search the vehicle, police said.

During the search, officers found four hypodermic syringes along with several pills and tablets. Because neither occupant claimed ownership of the items, both women were placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing.

Shrewsbury and Stoffels were each charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Shrewsbury, as the driver, also received two traffic summonses.

Both women were released pending a court date, police said.
