Uhlerstown-Frenchtown Bridge closed to vehicles during daytime hours this week for maintenance work
FRENCHTOWN BOROUGH, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — The Uhlerstown-Frenchtown Toll-Supported Bridge will remain closed to all vehicular traffic during off-peak daytime hours through Friday, Oct. 24, as crews complete several maintenance and repair projects, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced.
The two-way traffic closure began Monday and continues daily from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The pedestrian walkway will remain open throughout the work period.
Motorists are advised to use the Upper Black Eddy-Milford Toll-Supported Bridge, located about 3.3 miles upstream, as a detour. The Commission urges drivers to plan ahead and allow extra travel time when the bridge is closed to vehicle traffic.
The daytime shutdowns are allowing contractors to install new guide rails at both ends of the bridge, replace expansion joints, apply a new overlay surface to the concrete transitions at each bridge entrance, and mill and repave the asphalt approaches. Officials said the work is being done during the day because the noise level is too high for overnight operations.
The next scheduled travel restriction at the bridge is expected Saturday, Oct. 25, when flagger-controlled, alternating single-lane traffic will be in effect from approximately 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
