
Update: Man found dead in Morris County river identified
MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – The identity of a man found dead in the Passaic River in Montville Township on March 23 has been revealed, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll.
The deceased has been identified as 21-year-old Timothy Robinson, who was last seen in Cedar Grove on December 17, 2024, and had been reported missing shortly thereafter, Carroll said.
On March 23, at around 4:30 p.m., polcie were dispatched to the Passaic River near Route 46 in Montville after two fishermen reported spotting a body. Upon arriving at the scene, Montville Police officers located the body of a man, Carroll said.
The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Unit responded, and the body was recovered from the water. It was then turned over to the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office, Carroll said.
A forensic odontologist revealed the identity of the body on March 31. Members of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and the Essex County Sheriff’s Office notified Robinson’s next of kin in person the same day, Carroll said.
The cause and manner of Robinson’s death are still under investigation. However, authorities have stated that there is no indication of criminal involvement, and scans of the body showed no signs of projectiles or foreign objects, Carroll said.
The investigation is being conducted by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes and Missing Persons Units, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office CSI Unit, the Montville Police Department, the Essex County Sheriff’s Office, and the New Jersey State Police Missing Persons Unit.
